I'm using Tidy Cats right now the one with the red and yellow pail. Before that I used Scoop away tight clumping.

I cannot stand Tidy Cats. I have never had good experiences with their clumping or odor control.

Without a doubt (and I have 5 cats) Fresh Step Crystals (the all crystal litter). One bag will last 1 cat a month- can't beat that. And you don't scoop pee like you do a clumping litter. It dehydrates the poo too so scooping is a LOT easier (no heavy clumps). All you do is scoop once a week and stir the litter up to distribute fresh crystals with 'used' ones to keep litter fresh smelling.

Ever since I used that, the first comment that comes out of someones mouth is "you have FIVE cats?! I can't smell the box! What do you do, scoop every day?" And of course, I don't- haha

I recc'd any Fresh Step product- it clumps well and doesn't disintegrate when you scoop. Also, their 'paw points' program is awesome- I can get coupons for the litter with them so in a way, my cats help buy their litter.

If your cats use normal clay litter, they may make the transition easier unless they're like mine and used to using all litter (when you're a poor college, you kind a jump around on the type -lol)

Do not buy from your grocery (like kroger) as it is a ridiculous 16 bucks. Target has it at a good price- about $11 USM in central Ohio.

Don't forget to transition your cat to the litter if they are not used to something more 'rocky' and less 'sandy'. So mix a little in with each other to get them acquainted with the texture and smell. Outright switching litter can result in the cat refusing to use the box and accidents on the floor :p

update: I tried the wheat litter. it will clog your toilet and it clumps HARD AS A ROCK. It is near impossible to scoop off your box without soaking the box if it touches the bottom of it.

I have used all types of cat litter and absolutely nothing compares to Scoop Away. It gets rid of the smell better than anything I have tried. If you clean out the litter daily, even every few days, the litter stays fresh. One box will last you a few weeks, especially if you clean out the litter every few days. Just add a little more litter every time you scoop and the litter stays fresh and no more smell. It clumps really well and the litter is easy to clean up. Scoop Away is by far the best!

They're all good, but you or your cat may have a preference. I personally prefer the non-flushable clumping kind. Others prefer the kind that you can flush down the toilet. Some cat owners prefer the clay liter that you completely replace once a week. Others like pine litter because it's organic and good for the environment. Some people like scented litter...some cats don't! (And believe me, your cat will let you know if it doesn't like the litter you've chosen!) If it ain't broke, don't fix it. If your cat uses its litter, it's not too stinky, it's easy to change/clump/replace, and it's affordable, leave it alone.

HA! to the person who said dustbuster. You ve never experienced this. Kitty litter - especially the clumping kind - turns to concrete when it gets wet and then dries. "Gently use a putty knife" won t work, and neither will soap and a sponge. A couple of people got it right - you have to get it wet again to get it off, but even then it s not much fun. At least mine is in a room where there is a floor drain - my cat boxes are in the laundry room, and the washer leaks. What a mess! I have to tackle this job tomorrow and I am really, REALLY not looking forward to it.

The best I have EVER used is Fresh Step Crystals. Its blue crystals that come in a clear jug. I get it at Wal-mart.You use 1 jug at a time, so it can seem kind of expensive, but with 1 cat it lasts for a month. It is great as long as you keep it cleaned out.It never gets that urine smell either.

I really like Feline Pine Scoopable. It's cheap and easy to scoop. Also environmentally friendly!

Have 6 cats, have tried them all, Fresh Step works best in every way, especially smell. Unfortunately it costs the most.
