They are saying that the earth goes into cycles of warming and cooling and that the last mini ice age was 1500 years ago which triggered the dark ages because of crop failures in Europe.

I challenge anyone who believes man is more than a minor player in global warming to research the information. You can start with a 52 minute lecture available from Oregon Institute of Science and Medicine (http://www.oism.org/oism/s32p686.htm)....

If man is the cause of global warming, how does one explain concurrent warming on Mars as exhibited by a recession of the Martian polar ice caps?

all scientists agree that the earth goes through cycles of warming and cooling that have nothing to do with what humans are doing

at the same time, most scientists also agree that human activity will also affect the climate. the scientific debate revolves around two questions. 1) will 'greenhouse' gases create a greenhouse effect, or will pumping massive amounts of pollution into the air reflect sunlight back ino outer space causing cooling? 2) how bad is global warming, or is it maybe a good thing?

at this point, my understanding is that the overwhelming share of scienitsts think that the greenhouse effect will overwhelm the reflection of sunlight effect, so the earth will become warmer because of human activity.

the overwhelming share of scientists also believe that global warming will be bad for the world, even though it may be beneficial for some parts, like the non-coastal regions of canada and siberia.

Experiment:

Close the windows, curtains and doors in your kitchen to duplicate the earths atmosphere surrounded by the ozone layer. Then open and close your freezer to simulate alternating cold temperatures. Then turn on your stove and place some plastic in it to simulate warm temperatures which are constant because of the pollution.

Your experiment should reveal several things 1. an increase in temperature 2. a thinning of oxygen to breath 3. given long enough a deterioration of you kitchen 4. an environment thats becoming increasingly inhospitable

There may be substance to the scientists theory of the mini "ice age" in comparison to the "dark ages" however global warming and depletion of the ozone layer is in fact the result of pollutants released into the atmosphere

Scientists are not saying that global warming is not happening... it is considered a scientific fact (just like evolution) that the average temperature on Earth is increasing beyond levels ever before seen or measured as far back at 500 million years.

It is also considered a scientific fact that humas are the cause of this warming trend... people who disagree with this (you are stupid people btw), this is the main reason why we know that we humans are causing global warming:

In science, theories and hypotheses can never be proven *correct*... you can only support a hypothesis... What you *can* do however, is prove a theory or hypothesis *incorrect*. The process used to do this is called STRONG INFERENCE. Scientists around the world are working hard, trying to prove that humans are not the cause of global warming... only if this happens will it become scientific fact that humans are not the cause of global warming...

For people who don't understand what I just said... basically it is considered fact that humans are causing global warming... its going to stay that way.

The way that we are causing global warming is simple: we are releasing 40 million tons of carbon dioxide into the air daily, as well as other "greenhouse gases" like methane. CO2 levels are already wayyyy beyond historical highs, and this has been directly correlated to temperature increase. The proof is undeniable... we are causing global warming, and we must act to stop it... there's no other way.

And by the way... i just want to mention quckly... that anyone who believes that global warming is not happening is a complete idiot... just because Earth has cycled between cold and warm periods throughout history means nothing!!! Temperatures have never ever been this high consitently... YOUR IDEA IS WRONG!!! GET WITH THE PROGRAM!!!

.... feels good to get that off my chest...oh.. one more thing...

GOD IS NOT CAUSING THIS TO HAPPEN YOU CRAZY INSANE PEOPLE!!! THIS IS CAUSED BY OUR OWN STUPIDITY!! WE CAN FIX IT IF WE ACT NOW!!! THERE IS NO "GOD EFFECT"!!!... seriously people... get a brain...

All scientists, and even Al Gore, have always known that the Earth goes through natural cycles of cooling and warming. All scientists, and even George Bush, know that the amount of carbon dioxide in the air is much higher now than any time in the last half million years, and that it is a greenhouse gas that does cause warming. But nobody agrees how much extra carbon dioxide it would really take to overwhelm the natural cycles.

Scientific opinion is divided on the subject. The following data are established: The earth is getting warmer. The earth's temperature has varied since it was created. Atmospheric CO2 levels have increased, in an amount that correlates more or less with human production of the stuff. Beyond that, we get into computer simulation to try to make sense of this, and that is where the trouble begins, as anyone who has tried to use a computer to do a long-range forecast is all too well aware. There is also the question of carbon dioxide dissolved in the ocean; there is fifty times as much there as in the atmosphere, and since there is also dissolved calcium in the ocean, an increase in CO2 in the ocean would cause the precipitation of limestone. My own view is that the temperature may relate to CO2, but the costs of attempting to deal with it are so stupendous that it is pointless. A UN committee has outlined a program to address the matter; the estimated 50-year cost of it is $557,000,000,000,000 -- several times as much money as the total worth of every asset on the entire planet.

There are a very very few scientists saying that. They are way outnumbered by scientists who completely disagree.

Actually, the scientific debate about whether global warming is real and caused by man is over.

Scientists agree it's real and caused by man:

http://observer.guardian.co.uk/uk_news/story/0,,1995348,00.html

Business leaders agree it's real and caused by man:

http://money.cnn.com/2007/01/22/news/companies/climate_emissions/index.htm

Republican leaders agree it's real and caused by man:

"We simply must do everything we can in our power to slow down global warming before it is too late. The science is clear. The global warming debate is over."

Arnold Schwarzenegger, Republican, Governor, California

"Our nation has both an obligation and self-interest in facing head-on the serious environmental, economic and national security threat posed by global warming."

John McCain, Republican, Senator, Arizona

"These technologies will help us become better stewards of the environment - and they will help us to confront the serious challenge of global climate change."

President George Bush, Republican

The global warming deniers are exactly the same type of non-science believers as the people who don't believe we landed on the moon.

I would have added "or those who believe the Earth was made 6000 years ago". But I can't. Evangelical Christians believe it's real and caused by man:

The scientific debate over whether global warming is real and caused by man is finished. Yes and yes.

this is the debate about global warming. its a proven fast that the earth is on a warming trend. the question is: how much do humans impact it. Some say a huge amount, some say almost none. theres too little data to tell.

It is true that all this is an interplanetary com plot to make the earth warmer, Klingons will invade earth in a few years and they prefer warmer planets, and all you pathetic earthlings are being used by them to accomplish that by brainwashing you with the TVs to make you believe that you really need a big SUV and to travel in those ridiculously slow planes that pollute as much as 5000 SUVs when taking off.
Be prepared!

I don't really know what to believe. So i would say just to be on the safe side, we should assume we are causing it so we can stop our habits that some believe cause it. That way we can be sure we aren't ruining the world for ourselves. Better to be safe than sorry.
