To my Indian friends.... I will be moving to a new apartment soon...?

Question

.... I would like to purchase some things to put into my apartment that remind me of India (I was there for some months and miss it very much) ... from your own experience, what do you suggest I surround myself with ?... and do you know where in London or thereabouts I may purchase (online) bedspreads and things like a surahi? and little paintings and posters of say, Vishnu and Lakshmi?

p.s. can anything take the place of a surahi?.. I just like them.

I remember you were looking for stuff in NY; you may wish to go to the Kalustayan's on 28th and Lexington and also another stores beyond the Little India Emporium and closer to the Park Avenue on the 28th street (to your left, when you are going from Lex to park); you will get everything that you are looking for and at great prices. Including ethnic stuff from Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka as well as the Surahi and several metal and pictorial stuff of indian gods and goddesses.

enjoy and promote these items to your family and friends.

and, for your apartment, buy a "sitting gajalakshmi" picture to put right at the top of the doorway or as you open the doors of your home

putting surahi is not a bad idea .but you should hang 3 green chiliies tied with a lemon on the enterance of the house which will remind you indian culture.

i am Not From India but Try Costplus or Pier One Imports they have lots to chose from

for the price importers soak for such items you could travel to India and bring the items back yourself. then one would actually be in India briefly and satisfy their longing.
