Amnesia affects your long term memory in selective ways. Basic skills like writing, typing, talking, etc are in different regions of the brain. So it affects your memory...not your brains hard wired skills.

The brain is a awesome machine. I had an aneurysm and had memory lost after surgery. I knew people only by voice, faces I couldn't recognize and forgot the basics turning on a tap, looking before crossing a road etc. I was grateful what I remembered but hungry for the rest to come back and in time it did. There are still people I only regonize by voice.
I had rehab for a few years which was helpful and 14 years later can function well.
The person you remember might be the last one you saw or a safe person. Typing ,well I can type but unable to write and make sense out of it.I think if it would overwhelm you if all returned at once thus the brain is protecting you.
Give yourself time and hopefully things will come back. The brain also will compensate for your weakness in different ways. Hang in there it will get better.
