Hi, I just moved to Penn. and I want keep my Car registration in Michigan because it will cost to much for the car safty and all the other rules to change it over to Penn plates. But I need to be a resedent of Penn for college. Can I have my registration in Michigan and be a resedent of Penn. Like Michigan being my second home. I have a address where my sister lives...... any help would be great... thanx...

a job transfer took me to Minnesota from Missouri. i kept my cars registered in MO, i owned property there. the situation with your sister sounds like you could continue your home state registration.

Most states allow that for students or military personnel, you should check with Penn DMV first to see if they allow you to maintain an out of state registration. If they do, then as long as you maintain a viable address in your home state Mich shouldn't have a problem either. You should always contact the DMV of the state you are in first because as a temporary resident of their state, you are subject to their laws and restrictions while you are there. You should also check with Mich DMV because they may offer students and soldiers the ability to have an out of state address on their registration file to enable them to receive any important mailings, such as title or a registration sticker...or they may have a telephone number you can call to renew your yearly registration over the phone.
