I scalded my tongue today and it really hurts. Chewing gum definitely makes it worse, and drinking cold water only makes it marginally better while it's in my mouth. Any ideas of how to make it stop hurting?

Stop the cold water treatment! It only provides quick relief but it does not help. Try lukewarm instead, and let it heal itself. You should feel better by tomorrow.

Your mouth is the fastest part of the body it heal. Usually a burn only takes 1-2 days to heal. If it is longer than that, I might resort to using ice or water.

All I can think of is sucking on ice-cubes, maybe you can freeze it so iit won't hurt as bad. Or popsicles, freezes, etc.
