Friskies food in any form (Whiskas too), Science Diet all use by-product meat in their formulations and are not healthful foods for your cat. For canned food Natural Balance has a good variety of choices and even then I would stay away from the fishy choices. I use the NB with my cats and they may have the salmon or fish once a week at most and with three cats no one is eating a whole can of it.

Holistic veterinarians use milk thistle as a supplement to support and cleanse the liver.

"For any liver condition - hepatitis, fatty liver, chronic liver disease, inflammation of the bile ducts - don't hesitate to use milk thistle. This herb has amazing healing effects and actually regenerates the liver. You can add milk thistle to any treatment program and it may be the only thing that will help. Your veterinarian will gauge improvement by doing standard liver enzyme tests, and I am sure that he or she will be surprised, as I was in the beginning, at how welll this herb improves the status of the liver. This is a very organ-specific herb. Once the nezyme level normalizes you can stop the herb. I suggest giving milk thistle daily for a week each month." A. Greig Howie, DVM

"Milk thistle, in the form of a liquid, glycerin-based produce from Gaia Herbs (800-831-7780) available at health food stores. Give 10 drops twice a day." Maria Glinski, DVM

".....Give with meals. 250 milligrams once a day." Ron Carsten, DVM

If you've had the cat diagnosed, then the vet should have told you all about the best food. Call them.

I would feed him only the very best.

And DO NOT have it's teeth cleaned using a sedative. We did that with our dog once it was old, and we hadn't waited for the (liver enzymes etc) blood work to come back. It eventually ended her life.

Any wet food is not good if your cat is overweight because it has more fat and calories than dry food. If he is one a prescriptive plan, I would ask the vet if it is ok for him.
