There is evidence from practically every scientific field of study (biology, genetics, radiology, geology, paleontology, anthropology, linguistics, etc.) that evolution exists. And not just a study or two, but a MOUNTAIN of evidence from the last century and a half. Yet so many Americans still won't accept the truth because their fundamentalist minister (who never received a scientific degree and the most science he ever got was in some divinity school lecture taught by another nonscientist) says that it is false.

They go out of their way to find a crackpot who will agree with them (and who usually does it to sell books) and publish a study that totally disregards the scientific method, uses anecdotes as fact, and quotes other like-minded crackpots looking to sell something. Yet when it comes to information in truly scholarly scientific journals that's been reviewed by peers in other scientific fields, these people won't believe it. Why are these people so closed-minded to science?

i agree with you that evolution really exist..and evolution means change..in all aspects of life, may it be on science, religion or culture. nothing is constant except change..meaning the only permanent thing that happens in this world is CHANGE may it be good or bad. on a personal note, i think some people don't believe in evolution is because they cannot accept that other people have other point of views in life.that they are not open to theories on how a certain thing started and how it evolved to be what it is now and how it's going to look like in the future. they only accept the fact of what they believe in...because they fear that change or evolution may bring bad things to what they have believed in. it's a sad thing that they cannot accept new and improved things in this century. though, i have nothing against traditional things because it's where evolution started. i think we just have to respect their pont of view in their present belief. in this century, we are lucky to freely express what we think. unfortunately for some they abuse that and influence others to stick to tradition even if it's not proven good by scholars..that's a sad thing..those people abuse the poor in education and religion..they gain profit by the ignorance of others rather than educating them..

people are so arrogant when you challange a commonly held "belief" bcz that is all that a "theory" is a belief based on inconclusive evidence that is interpreted one way or another but is not proven to be 100% right although it MAY (remember MAY) be... There is nothing wrong in challenging that theory, so many people who posted a reply here have also not read ur qn properly since you state that your disbelief in the evolution theory does not stem from religious reasons... People are quick to attack people who challange commonly held beliefs it forces them to think too much or to back up their beliefs and most people can only come up with insults or say things like "bcz its true" or "bcz ao much research has been done" however its still a theory as you mention after all that so-called research... etc etc... Although i believe the world is in a constant state of flux and change it dosent mean we are evolving it may be a little arrogant to think that for example the human eye is constantly evoliving or whatever else .. cz according to that theory our vision should be improving, disease should be less prevalent etc... There is flux in the world but i believe it goes both ways.. i also believe that the complexity of the world does demonstrate some sort of design at work... funny how evolution was able to occur so well if what we started off with was random raw materials/chemicals/matter/atoms etc... i am not necessarily advocating that there is a god but that the who came first the chicken or the egg arguement seems to apply here... did we evolve or were we always here but in different states of flux?? even if we did evolve were did the first atoms come from?? and dont say the big bang cz then the qn just goes on where did the atoms and energy to create the big bang come from?? In my opnion therefore it must mean that atoms/matters always existed but just in different forms and patterns... and not necessarily in a linear so-called evolutionary terms...

I hate to say it, but read through the scientific journals etc on evolution and there are some missing bits that are so far yet to be explained by science.
Don't get me wrong, I follow the old adage of "Where does a 500pound gorilla sit? Anywhere it wants... How does an omnipotent being create the universe? Anyway it wants."
I agree that evolution is the most likely process to have resulted in the universe being as it is.
The problem remains that while there are gaps in the evolutionary record and questions still left unanswered or as yet unanswerable there will always be people who will use that to justify their opposition to it.

Hummm that would be me. And you can call me names all day it doesn't prove that a dinosaur evolved into what we have today as our birds. That there was some link between simple mammals and man... At the rate scientist say such changes there has been enough time since the last extension event till now to produce the wide variety of plants and animals that are part of our world today.. It just doesn't make sense.... Jim

There are only those idiots left who wont accept the idea that Christians DO (can you say that? DO) know that evolution exists, as we can see in every day life that things change over time and adapt to different surroundings... what Creationists DONT believe is the thing scientist claim that there is no support for, which is, one thing changing into something completely different.. macroevolution. Lizards becoming birds, Apes becoming man, life coming from nothing. The only thing science HAS proved is that things change within it's own kind. Never has science shown one kind becoming another.

Every species of creature, plant, insect... every living thing is evolving even as we speak... there has been so many new species that have come to light over the last 100 years or so... all of those have evolved from another creature/plant/insect... i dont think most people deny it exists... some do, which is absurd... but most believe evolution is true, but some believe God created creatures in order to evolve and adapt... I dont... although that theory would be interesting...

There are religious people who actually claim this about fossils, I'm not kidding. Fossils, God put those here to test our faith. So God lies Huh? The have a fossil at Liberty University that teachers claim is only a few thousand years old. And people wonder why others say religion is a bad drug. People can't think correctly while they are using it.

First and foremost I am a Christian. Second I am not an idiot. Third I am not of the animal species. Do you know how I know, try killing the offspring of a cougar, mountain lion, bear, etc. See what would happen to you. Humans on the other hand doesn't seem to have a problem with it. They was given choices you see, the animals goes with instincts. Where does that let us as a species? We the intelligent ones that are trying to destroy our own kind. We that maim, murder, rape and pillage, where does that let us, we are so smart. These are questions from a Christian to anyone that can answer. If anything gets in our way we destroy it. What other species on this earth would move in these patterns since they, as you say, have evolved? This is why I can't believe in your theory of evolution. No evolved species could be such horrendous killers.

Evolution is still only a theory....not a fact. I cannot swear to a theory, even if I think it makes sense. I do not have an agenda to sway my belief on this matter as I am agnostic and do not believe in the biblical faiytale of creation.

Probably because their parents taught them so. You are right that evolution might have existed. But you should know that humans are afraid to have big changes in their lives, let it be thinking perspectives, relationships and such. It is really hard to convince anyone to think that evolution did exist because there is no one authoritative being there to affirm that knowledge into their brains. Maybe it is because of the religion factor. Most people would not believe in the theory of evolution because they are afraid that people in their religion would isolate them and leave them alone as lunatics.
