Unfortunately you don't give a lot of information on the cat, such as known health issues or age.

If this is an old cat that has stopped cleaning itself, and she goes into the closet a lot - it may be time for her to die. Cats tend to crawl away into solitary places when it's time, and she might be looking for the right place to go.

I don't think, as some of the other posters suggested, that the cat is pregnant, because a pregnant cat will not stop cleaning herself - but will find a spot to "nest" and have her kittens.

If this is a young cat that has just suddenly stopped taking care of herself, I would say that your cousin should take her to the vet as soon as possible. She might be sick or dying from something that could be fixed - so please have her seen and taken care of.

There are various signs that a cat is ill or does not feel well. Two key signs are hiding and loss of interest in normal activities. Normal activities means - eating, drinking, napping, playing, using the litterbox, grooming, etc.

You don't give much other information about your cousin's cat, but I would encourage your cousin to consider a trip to the vet. Many illnesses are curable with medical treatment. If your cousin's cat has already visted the vet and no further treatment options are available, you cousin should seriously consider euthanasia as a means to end the cat's pain and suffering. Sometimes peace is the best gift you can give to a sick, beloved four-legged companion. Good luck.

Yes. Something is happening. Anytime a cat stops grooming itself, could mean big trouble. I would almost bet the cat has changed its eating habits as well. Anytime a cats behavior changes in any way to be more aloof or even much friendlier than it was before - something is gonig on. It really ought to go to the vet for a blood test. There is no way of knowing what it could be without an examination.

Something is most likely wrong. The on;y way to know for sure is to take it the vet. A responsible pet owner would have done that by now!

let me answer your question with a word of experience from me and my kitty.
i had ernie for 16 years when this happened. ernie hadnt been feeling too well. he just wasnt the same. he quit eating, using his litter box, fighting with his sister and brother, puking and just moping around my apartment. i woke up one morning to hear him mewing real loudly. i reached down to pick him up and he just let out this little meow. he then ****** his head back and died in my arms. i think i died right along with him. i had had ernie for all of his 16 years.
honey, tell your cousin not to fight the inevitable. cats know when their time is. please let them be. it'll be for the best... even though it may not seem fair or understandaable.

You need to take her to the vet. Please get her blood tested. That sounds like some of the symptoms of kidney disease. Please take note to see if she is drinking more water and urinating more. Kidney disease causes depression and will make her hide. They will also not clean themselves. She might also have a funny smell to her fur. Please take her to a doctor as soon as possible. I hope she's ok!

Maybe she is about to have kittens. Take her to the vet for confirmation.
