If you can declare yourself as independent then their earning becomes irrelevant.
But yes you can still get financial aid with his salary...You can get merit based aid, but as for need based aid, it will mostly come in the form of loans not grants.

Financial aid does depend on both salaries. On your FAFSA form, you will be asked what is listed on their income tax forms. It also depends on how many are in your family and expenses too. I doubt that you will be eligible with your dad making that much. I made only 55000 and my daughter was not eligible. I definitely could not afford to pay for it either. Try looking into going to a comm. college for the first two years. Get good grades and try for scholarships. Also if you file your FAFSA in time you might get some grant money. It's worth the time to fill it out and file it before the deadline.

its doubtful see the excerpt below.
My parents don't support me, can I claim independent status?
Whether your parents support you financially or not is a choice that they make, and unfortunately the government has very strict criteria for being an independent student. If you cannot answer YES to at least ONE question below, you are considered a dependent student and must submit your parents' information on your FAFSA:
- Were you born before January 1, 1982? (for the 05-06 academic year)
- Were you born before January 1, 1983? (for the 06-07 academic year)
-Are you working on a master's or doctorate program?
-As of the date you file the FAFSA, are you married?
-Do you have children who receive more than half of their support from you?
-Are you an orphan?
-Are you a ward/dependent of the court?
-Are you a veteran of the U.S. Armed Forces?
-Do you have dependents (other than your children or spouse) who live with you and who receive more than half of their support from you?

if you are dependent on your father for support his salary is counted. if not, his doesn't matter. same with your mother. financial aid is determined by the amount of aid you can expect your parents, or parent if divorced, can afford. it is the parent you live with, or no parent if you have your own income, which determines the qualification for financial aid. my grandson gets grants for college. he lives with us, but he has his own income from working so no one's other income matters, just his.

That will definetly matter, unless your over 25, or considered an indepenent. And to be considered independent, you have to meet certain criteria. I had that same problem. My mom lived over 2,000 miles away, and I had been supporting myself for years. She wasn't about to pay for my college. She's a teacher, and they don't make that much, but I still didn't get approved. Give it a try, maybe things have changed.

Financial aid does go by your parents income unless you don't live with them. If they claim youon their taxes then it will go by all the income counted on the taxes. There is student loans though.

It is based on the salary of the parent you live with. If you live with your mom, then you would only consider her salary. If you live with your dad then you would consider his salary and his wife's.

Get yourself declared as an independent. As long as your father counts you as a dependent on his tax return, you won't be able to get much, if any, financial aid.
You have to have been independent for a full fiscal year though, so you have to do it a year before you apply.
