I am a Canadian citizen, resident of the US. I had to get a new passport unfortunately at the same time as everyone else suddenly needing one. My application is delayed beyond my planned trip to Canada for work. Can I go to Canada without my passport then have it sent to me while I am there so I can reenter the US? I have a drivers licence and nothing else (my birth certificate is with my passport application).

You can try. However, if you are going by air you might have problems as the airlines might not be letting people board the planes if there is a doubt about whether you will get into Canada. Check with the airline.

Either by land or air, you might still be required to prove your citizenship and it will be at the officer's discretion if he/she let's you in. If they believe you, they have to let you in!
