Once decay gets through the many layers of enamel to become a cavity, then it get's larger pretty fast. The part you see, that little spot, is a lot larger under it once you get through the enamel. It's like a large pin hole on top, but if you dig down it branches out like the roots on a tree. Those roots on you're tree are the nasty, mushy, smelly, rotted tooth decay! It may not be hurting you right now or maybe it won't in a few more months. But I can guarantee you that if you don't go and have this taken care of soon, it will hurt you. I'm talking serious pain in the teeth and the pocket, the longer you wait, the bigger it gets. And the bigger it gets, the more expensive it is too. Hope I've been of some help, go get the filling while that's all it is. Good luck!

even if it doesn't hurt it could be spreading. Get it filled in asap! Every person is different so there is no set amount of time it will take to spread. The danger is that if it does spread you may end up LOSING the tooth forever. Teeth do not regrow.

Depends on how hard your enamel is, and how much saliva you produce regularly.
With lots of saliva, a micro cavity can go for 2 years before becoming a problem.
