get a job by your own laptop

hmmm... Do you have a birthday or something coming up? Parents are not going to buy you a laptop for no reason.

If you have a job, or if your too young for one - try babysitting or something (pulling weeds in yards - a yard sale, etc.) and then sit down with your parents and explain to them why you want one - they will want reasons more than "to get on line" or something. Say it will be a good investment for school work /college or career. Then have one picked out and tell them why its a good purchase, and then offer to pay for half - or take out a 'loan' with them and pay them back through household jobs and half in money or something. This will help show them you are responsible and if they do buy - you will take care of it because its yours.

If you just ask you will get shot down - if you go in prepared and show that you have thought about this and want enough where you will help and not expect them to give it to you for nothing, then you might just persuade them. :)

But remember if your parents do buy this for you- it is another thing they can hold over head - like taking it away or "I bought that computer so you better do this...." All parents are different you just have to try an approach you think will work on yours.

good luck!

Geeze, grow up. I want, I want. Do they usually go for that crap? Get a job and buy it yourself. If you're not old enough for a job, then babysit, mow lawns, walk dogs. Also if you're not old enough for a job, you don't need a laptop. As responsible parent, I want to know what my kids are surfing/searching for. That's not as readily available with your own laptop. I would never, ever buy my kids one. I have a great computer in the den. If they need to work or IMing or whatever, they do it where I can see what's going on. Besides, those are very expensive. You drop it, and there goes that investment. If you're going to college, that's another matter, and if you are going to college, you're old enough to get a job. Get real girl.

I have a laptop and they are very expensive...I got the very basics just for school and home and it cost me over $1300. I don't think a letter would work. But you may have to show them how responsible you are by helping to pay for a portion of it and be willing to accept it for a couple gifts such as birthday, Easter, Christmas, or whatever holidays you may normally get presents.

Research different types of laptops and organize a chart and do it by price and quality. Tell them to sit down and listen to what you have to say. Tell them the benefits about a laptop and how it would help you with grades and other stuff. It worked on my parents for a cell phone, i hope it will work for you. First of all be kind and respectful to them, obey them when they ask you to do something, that way you will be on their good side.Invite them for ice cream or coffee whatever you can afford, they will be delilghted, always smile and look to them in the eye.
Then let them know the desires of owning a computer, give them all the details of what you need and explain to them how it is going to help you with your homework, learning experience etc, and share with them why it is a big NEED for you.
Check on the paper or computer fot the best lower price of the type of LT you want, and show it to them, I am sure they will be happy to help you out and get it for you if, you deserve it.
Good luck!

I might consider it if you were my kid, but you would have contribute something. Get a part time job, Then you can tell them how useful one would be for school projects. If you look at the computer stores, find out where the best deals are. Offer a proposal. You will contribute some of the cost, and will keep your room TIDIER. Then give them your best, sweetest face. How could they refuse.

Tell them what you want to use it for. That will be enough to sway them or it won't. I mean, you can't make uses up because you won't stick to them.

Anyway, make sure your case is for a laptop not just a desktop because if you only convince them you need a computer then they will probably go for a desktop.

On third thought. You said 'want'. If you want it, buy it yourself. If you need it, you might be able to persuade them on need.

i think talking is better than writing a letter
that way if they have questions they can ask you so you make sure you cover everything
and then you can see their reaction too
you should wait when they have sometime to listen to you
dont get angry if they say no because that is immature
also offer to pay for part of it or do something extra or responsible to show that you can handle the responsibility and deserve it
good luck :)
(it worked for me...i loveeee my laptop)

Dear Parents,
I love you. I have nothing but respect for you and truly appreciate all the things that you do for me. You provide a comfortable home, food, opportunities for me to grow and learn. I don't feel like I show you how much you mean to me and how grateful I am for you. Please let me show you my appreciation by allowing you to buy an expensive, and probably pointless, toy for me. Will you buy me a laptop? If you do, I promise to use it only for playing music, videos, movies, and hopefully with an Internet connection, I can spend countless hours online chatting with friends.. and strangers! Maybe... just maybe... I can have my very own opportunity to check out porn... or even illegally download software and media files! That would be so cool! Please buy it for me.. I promise you won't regret it!

Love,

(insert name here)

If this doesn't work, I just don't know what will.

If you are in high school, you don't need a laptop. I wouldn't buy one for my kids, no matter what they said or wrote. They are way too expensive. If you want a laptop, earn the money to pay for it yourself.
