I had to get full dentures last year. It's not as bad as you may think. Once I got used to the "full mouth" feeling (took about a week) I started to feel really good about myself again. Learning to eat with them is awkward, the upper denture was fine but the bottom denture was difficult. I'm now eating anything I want - except nuts which I never really liked anyway. My husband says he doesn't notice anything different in the kissing department. I do use a dental adhesive because as my gums heal and shrink the dentures don't fit as well as they did 2 months ago. That little problem will be solved when I go back in about 4 months for the re-lining which is part of the process with dentures. If its at possible I would advise getting whatever treatment is necessary to avoid dentures, but that's a self-esteem issue with me, just wish I'd looked after my teeth better when I was younger.
If you do get dentures the worst part of the whole process (for me anyway) was the terrible gag reflex I suffered from, my dentist had to trim the upper denture several times to stop that happening as the top plate was a little too long (went too far back in my mouth) but that only took about 10 days to get sorted out.
Good luck!

I don't have them but I work for a dentist office. If at all possible you should try to get a partcial first and get used having something in your mouth. If not then get you dentures ASAP so that you don't loose anymore bone. The larger the ridge the better they will stay in for you.. Yes they have some draw backs but you can always look on the bright side too....
1. You will can have really nice white teeth!
2. you will have really nice straight teeth!
the perfect smile.
When you chew you will need to cut your food into small pieces and chew on both sides of your mouth to avoid the dentures from rocking. Also you can use a product like SEA BOND many of my patients like this one.
After 6 months you may have have to go in for a re-Aline to make them fit a little snugger.
i can't help you out on the kissing thing but just so you know you should take them out at night while you sleep to let the tissue rest so make sure that isn't a shock to who ever your kissing.
good luck!!!

my friend got dentures when she was 38 and she says her teeth have never looked better. It sounds horrible i know. She removes her bottom ones to sleep. She eats fine. I never see her without them. She dates and men didnt have a problem with them. of course she doesnt brag. Worse things could happen. In the end your smile will be much better. Good luck.

I lost some teeth due to a sports injury, I presently have an "appliance" which is made of plastic (looks like dentures) and it is easier to eat with it in than with it out...
but then... I look a LOT like Dracula with it out.. *GriN* so sometimes it is better to kiss without it.

first of all how old are you?
Dentures are for persons who have no teeth at all or patients who have to extract their teeth for a variety of reasons.
But if your teeth can be treated then that is a better option with rootcanals and ceramic crowns. dentures need getting used to, and eating will not be all that good and u will lose most of your ability to savor food. regarding kissing, that is based on individual opinion.. u need to ask some one with dentures... :D

It sucks to have to face this at your age, but I guarantee you are not alone. Is there any way you can get implant supported dentures so they are more secure, or are you having trouble with the bone support around your teeth as well? You will do just fine, no one will know but you.
Good luck to you. (hug)
