i drive my leased 2006 vw jetta to work every day, i have heard from numerous people that there is an exemption and/or tax write-off for your vehicles monthly payment and/or cost of fuel.
has anyone stumbled upon this one?

No, no such animal!

If a BUSINESS leases a car, the lease payments are legitimate business expenses. But if an ordinary taxpayer leases one and the only "business use" is for commuting NONE of the costs are deductible.

Many car salesmen will hype the "deductiblity" of lease payments. Unfortunately, gullible consumers such as yourself swallow that hook, line, and sinker. You should ask tax questions of a tax professional -- even the part-timers at Block and Hewitt know the correct answer to that one -- and leave the car sales toads to point out the features of the car. Hmmm...on second thought, don't trust them too far on that either.

No, there is no deduction for commuting expenses, whether your car is owned or leased. These "numerous people" are not correct.
