Mouths? If you hit a Policeman in England you should be put in jail for a long time or deported. Unless that policeman is called Richard Brunstrom in which case you should be given lots of money and a knighthood

The above poster is right in saying that if charged with 'assaulting a police constable in the execution of his duty' the penalty would be up to the summary trial limit of six months imprisonment.

However, depending on the injury caused the charge could be one of actual bodily (ABH) harm or grievous bodily harm (GBH).

These are more serious indictable/either way offences offences, for which you could get up to:
5 years for ABH
and
5 years or life for GBH depending on whether there was 'intent' to cause the serious injury

Generally something like bruising and redness to the skin would result in a charge of assault on a PC, a broken nose or extensive bruising would result in an ABH charge and more serious bone breakages or fractures (commonly with long tern affects on the victim) would result in a charge of GBH.

So you hit a policeman then? Why? Were you drunk or something. Don't worry, old bean! The prison's are full. Though they may lock you up in a police station, where all the other policemen live!

Tell the court you feared for your life, not realising they were police, as you had just been to a fancy party, and had to leave as you were being bullied by three chaps in police costumes. So when suddenly you seen the yobs coming at you, with no place to run, you blindly lashed out, not aiming at anyone in particular. If this does not work for you, its the salt mines for you old son.

To the post above you would get that storey checked and witnesses would have to be at the party and prove you were getting bullied at a party and i would not suggest lying in court it will just get worse.

"Assaulting a police officer" is worst than normal a assault as the courts look at it so say if you get 2 months in prison for common assault but to a police officer add another 6 months to that it is not taken lightly!

The offence is committed when a person assaults either:
a constable acting in the execution of his or her duty; or
a person assisting a constable in the execution of his or her duty.
It is a summary only offence, which carries a maximum penalty of six months' imprisonment and/or a fine not exceeding the statutory maximum.

As the prison are at bursting point, and paedophiles get let off I'd say probably nothing, But don't let him and his mate's catch you out on your own at night, or you might well feel more that the long arm of the law. and the boot and the fist etc etc.

Not as many as you would get if you hit one where you come from.
