To the world, very important. To the earth, of no importance whatsoever. The world is the ego of the earth. However to sing the ego asleep and to wake the person up words may be used. After I looked at sunmans answer again, I guess I said the same things as he did, just with different "words". Does this mean we are speaking from the same "mind"?

Everything started from a sound. Believe it or not without sound word will never be understood when expressed. In the absence of written language or expressed word in the beginning of times... "LET THERE BE LIGHT !" could have been the "BIG BANG !" that scientists was talking about.
Man later on was able to create distinct sounds to every letter he had invented to communicate. Arabic, Indian and Chinese words was from the sounds that come out of their lips, mouth, tounge, and throat to express their meanings. Through that learnings they discovered that every word you express is a sound you hear that can also affect yours and others' feelings and emotion that could create a course of action. The early generations need not to write what they want to convey and words from one man to another is enough to honor an agreement. When man learned to lie and deny what has been agreed between, the art of writing was formalized as a means to preserved what has been agreed upon and what is written are words that express each other's intention.
I am not sure why did you ask how important it is when you surely know that it is the only way people can communicate through words...that can be presented in many forms.. expressed through the mouth, through writings, through carvings, through hand gestures, body language, smoke signals, art works, facial expressions and many unspoken but stiil considered words.

Words are the only way the human has of communicating. They can tear down or build up. They can be loving or cruel. People really need to stop and think before insulting, ridiculing, or otherwise using hurtful words.

When it boils down to it, words fall short, and they may even get in the way of direct experience, but, the egos in their current state rely on words to understand reality, and since this is who we are trying to wake up, words take on a new importance.

You can do as much or more harm by uttering a cruel word than physical punishment because we humans hear them and it goes straight down to our subconscious. We may forget them after a while but the subconscious never forgets them.
So all of you who hurl hurtful words carelessly, those of you who name call others for no other reason than anger or because you are inconvenienced, remember you will have a lot to answer for
and in unexpected ways.
