My roommates 21st birthday is coming up in a couple of months and we are trying to plan a really nice weekend in New Orleans for her. We are looking for someplace classy, but moderately priced to dine.

And it goes without saying that the food must be good!

Any suggestions?

It's hard to answer this question as I don't know what part of town you want to be in and am not sure what moderately priced means to you.

I can't think of a single place I would consider "classy" in the french quarter that would be less then $16-$25 an entree (not including a starter, desert and drinks).

When I do girls weekends in N.O. w/ my pals, sometimes we will tell our waiter we want to order family style, and will order a few entree's to be served to the whole table so we get to taste a little bit of everything.

You might try the following restaurants in the quarter. Make SURE you make reservations!!!

1. GW Fins (incredible seafood - not creole or cajun but really really delicious - the lobster dumpling appetizer is amazing)
2. Carmello's (fantastic italian food, some of the best soups and pastas you will find anywhere - they are also known for their selection of wines)
3. (for brunch) The Court Of Two Sisters - one of the best bangs for your buck in terms of brunch!!!! Make sure you request a courtyard table if the weather is good.
4. (not classy, but really really good seafood when you are super casual) Acme Oyster House.

OH!!! You know the Palace Cafe right off Canal is one of the more reasonably priced high service nice restaurants. You might try there. It is a more traditional creole restaurant.

There is also Irene's Cuisine (italian) which is amazing but doensn't take reservations.

There are also lots of really cute restaurants in Uptown off of Magazine Street.

I think you should consider the Palace Cafe.

if you want classy, you will find no place that is priced moderately. The good news though: there are several places with food that is ohso detrimentally delectable, and exquisitely tasty. This is where I come in. If you don't mind driving about an hour north if you take I-10 W toward Baton Rouge, then take I-55N and exit Manchac right after you cross a bridge spanning the channel between Lake Maurepas and Ponchartrain. The name of the restaurant is Middendorf's. Bear in mind most restaurants close after a year or so. This particular restaurant on the lake has been there for the better part of a century. More than 70 years if memory serves me correctly. The best southern Louisiana seafood you'll ever have.

Also if you'd rather stay in New Orleans check out Dino's on Tchoupitoules, if you are traveling down Canal St. toward the river hang a right on St. Peters it will eventually turn into Tchoupitoules and you'll see a small yellow sign on your left "Dino's". It's the best hole in the wall Martini Pub you'll find.

A cool place to hang as well is off the Carollton exit. There's a place called Rock and Bowl. 2 stories. Food on the first floor. Live music, drinks, and bowling up top. The building's been around for about 50+ years.

Speaking of Carollton if you go all the way towards the levy there's another place that would be on your right called Camelia Grill. The most inexpensive and tasty food I've ever sunk my teeth into.

And don't forget when you're in the Quarter at least have yourself an order of Beignets in Cafe Du Monde if you've never tried it.

Of all of these suggestions I would most strongly recommend Middendorf's and Dino's. If you want to cut a rug peruse the local paper I think it's called the Lagniappe and find out where the "Funky Beans" are playing.

Good stuff. good luck. have fun and be safe.

The House of Blues, 2nd block of Decatur just a few blocks from River Walk.and the Mississippi, which has a free ferry ride across the river and back. You might luck out and have a killer band playing in the club that night. If not you're just a few blocks from Bourbon and about 6 blocks from the cathedral, both of which are free shows. Have fun and be safe!

Deanie's on Lake Avenue in Metairie (between New Orleans proper and the airport) is one of the most popular seafood restaurants in the entire New Orleans area. The food is delicious, the price is right, and you'll have loads of fun. It's right near Lake Pontchartrain.

I'll go get a link for you.

I really like Feelings Cafe in the Marigny. It is small, quaint with a great bar and menu. Take a cab and make an evening of it. Enjoy your trip!

Good Luck, I don't know of any. If you like charbroiled oysters try Dragos in New Orleans or look on-line for the recipe, they are delicious, half dozen is about 16.00 .You can buy a bag of unshelled oysters at the foot of the Hughey P. Long bridge, about 25.00 for 1/2 sack, about 50 large oysters. Get you an oyster knife and shuck them, be very careful or you can cut your hand bad. I wrap a dish hand towel around my hand and get a firm grip on the oyster. If you get a stubborn one, hit it with w hammer a couple of licks on the edge, that ought to do it.I keep mine on the half shell on ice till ready to cook.
Dragos Charbroiled Oysters Recipe
32 oysters
1 cup of butter
2 tablespoons finely chopped garlic
1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper
1/4 cup grated parmesan, not in a can, fresh!
1/4 cup romano
1/2 cup parsley
****instead of parsley- I use 1/4 cup italian seasoning

!. Heat grill on med-high
2.Melt butter, garlic, and pepper in a small pan
3. Mix parmesan, romano, and either parsley or italian
seasoning in a small bowl
4. Place oysters in half shell on grill
5. Spoon melted garlic butter onto oysters
6. Add a large pinch of parmesan/romano cheese to the
top of oyster.
7. Charbroil oysters for approximately 8 minutes, they will
swell slightly
Remove from grill with tongs and spatula, very carefully. Serve on plate with garlic bread to sop up juices. Delicious:)
