He wanted her to get a day in jail for every pea in the second can as well as every peach in the first can.
Basically, he's trying to get away from his wife for a while.

Her husband pointed out that she also stole a can of peas hoping she would have to stay in jail longer. He knew that the judge gave her one day per peach. There are a lot of peas in a can therefore he wanted her to stay in jail for a long time.

Well personally i think that her husband wanted her to be in jail longer because he wanted his wife to spend more time in jail because there is more peas than peaches. Like for example, there is 6 peaches in a jar and there is no jar that has only 6 peas in it. Get it. Was that a true story?

The husband though that if she got a day in jail for each peach then she would get a day for each pea. Then he would get some peace and quiet for that long of a time.

the idea behind this is that there are many peas in a can so the husband told the judge that she stole one so the jugde would put her in jail for howether many peas there were in the can days as the husband did not want his wife at home

There are a LOT of peas in the can, see? So if the judge gave her one day for each pea, she'd be in jail for a while, no?
The husband is saying he wants his wife to go away.

Because if the judge sentenced her to one day per peach, then if he sentenced her to one day per pea, she's be in for a long time, which is what the husband obviously wants.
