The human body isnt that tough. Why do all these "suicidal" people fail at killing themselves so frequently? Because they know that our pathetic system will coddle them, and tell them how special they are. Its obvious 95% of these people are taking advantage of our system.
The solution is to legalize suicide. Need help? here is a diagram and a plan for success. Refuse these failures any healthcare for injuries/illnesses stemming from suicide attempts. Guaranteed our attempted suicide rate would plummet overnight.

Wow...you wanted thoughts and you're sure getting them!
Your premise is correct. It's easy to commit suicide...but it's no so easy to kill yourself. There is a difference.
When things get so lousy that you can't see a way out, you might try to commit suicide. Do you want to kill yourself? Probably not...at least that's been my experience in 30 years of providing mental health treatment. Trains, cars, buses all will kill you if you walk in front of them. Pills usually get thrown up. Guns usually blow off an ear or part of your nose. Cutting your wrists just hurts.
What people really want is attention...just like you and your question. How do you determine if someone tried to commit suicide or just ran out of gas in front of that train? Were they competent to make the decision for this legal suicide? Maybe we should ask Dr. Jack Kevorkian? Oh yeah, when someone has diabetes, we should not give them medication either. Heck, they'll just live longer, eat bad food, have amputations, lose their eye site, etc. Oh, and those smokers...we should just shoot them all before they cost us money...and let's not even mention policeman and fireman...heck they run into trouble when we run away...they must be crazy... This all costs US money, right?
When you have a disease, it should be treated, right? Or is that hamburger you had tonight not corroding your arteries...yet...
In other words, stuff it!!!!

Have a heart. You can not comment on something you know nothing about. If you have tried to commit suicide and failed, then go ahead and talk about it. I guess that you think that all the people who are in jail should not be there. Why not just get rid of them too. There is always hope that some one will find the help they need. Every one deserves a chance.

I used to have no pity for someone dumb enough to commit suicide. Then a good friend of mine had an 18 year old son who one day had a brain chemical imbalance, and in laymens terms, went off the deep end. Since he was 18, he couldn't be forced to take the prescription pills to fight his paranoid thoughts. It took a long time for them to get this sorted out. He was an "A" student prior to all this. They learned later this was a hereditary type condition, (he was adopted) so they never saw it coming. During his low points, he had considered suicide.
I no longer feel the same as before after witnessing this sequence of events.

EXCUSE ME--WHAT A JERK. I WAS AT ONE TIME SO SUICIDAL AND IT TOOK A COUPLE OF YEARS BEFORE THEY FOUND THE RIGHT COMBINATION OF MEDS AND A HIGH ENOUGH DOSE. MY FAMILY DIDN'T KNOW I WAS SUICIDAL. I KEPT IT A SECRET. BUT, I FOUGHT SO HARD. MY BRAIN WASN'T FUNCTIONAL RIGHT. I COULDN'T THINK CLEARLY. EVERY OUNCE OF MY ENERGY FOR A LONG TIME WENT TOWARDS FIGHTING SUICIDE. I REMEMBER HOLDING A KNIFE IN MY HAND FOR A COUPLE OF HOURS AND FIGHTING SO HARD THAT MY ONE HAND WAS TRYING TO GET THE KNIFE FROM OTHER HAND SO I WOULDN'T CUT MY WREST. MENTAL ILLNESS WHEN IT ISN'T UNDER CONTROL IS THE WORST THING THAT I HAVE EVER EXPERIENCED. I'VE GONE THRU A LOT OF PHYSICAL AND MENTAL ABUSE WHEN I WAS A KID--I'VE GONE THRU CANCER. NOTHING COMES CLOSE TO THE DESPAIR THAT SOMEONE CAN FEEL FROM --A MAJOR DEPRESSIVE DISORDER. I WAS NOT AFTER ATTENTION. YOU MADE ME MAD OR I PROBABLY WOULDN'T HAVE TOLD MY STORY. I DON'T HAVE TO TRY TO GET ATTENTION--MY ATTENTION WAS ON SURVIVAL. MAYBE SOME TIME YOU WILL BE ABLE TO EXPERIENCE SOME DEPRESSION THAT IS SEVERE THEN YOU WILL SEE THAT IT ISN'T NORMAL DEPRESSION.

The main reason people fail at suicide attempts is because they don't really want to die. They are SCREAMING for help when they attempt suicide.

I agree that attempted suicide is a cry for attention... I disagree with your solution however...
In Singapore, they have outlawed suicide - the penalty being DEATH SENTENCE!!!! Guess what - no one attempts suicide. They either complete the act, or they dont bother crying for attention....

do you think those who are depressed are seriously thinking about illegal it would be to commit suicide?
maybe it's a call for help and that we should help them. why should we ignore people who need something so badly they are willing to try to kill themselves.
those are my thoughts. i doubt you will agree, but it doesn't matter to me.
