I started using the gym facility at my college which has pretty much everything and i can reserve time to swin, run track , take dance classes etc (non- credit/academic). I want to know what specific activities and machines should I use that would help me with this?

it's almost impossible to build muscle AND lose fat at the same time. You can lose fat and maintain muscle or you can lose fat and lose muscle...which if you don't mind being flabby, then you would want the third choice.

Lifting weights will not make you build muscle as long as you are eating about 300 -500 calories under your maintenance calories. People only build muscle when they are eating ABOVE their maintenance calories.

No you will not become Arnold if you lift weights. Basic exercises like squats and deadlifts are great for you and combine that with a healthy diet and cardio.

btw, I'm a girl..I lift heavy weights and I've been LOsing fat, not gaining muscle.

Hello,

I wouldn't worry about building a lot of muscle. You'd have to try really hard to do that. Building some muscle is good because your body at rest will burn more calories the more muscle you have. Running is a good way to lean yourself out... small weights (10 lbs or so) will keep your arms toned (like not flabby but not muscular either). I'd stay away from weight machines, but just do small free weights to keep toned. Swimming is also a great exercise. In any case a bit of muscle will keep your metabolism in great shape and trust me, without taking steroids you won't get overly muscular with regular exercise.

I found the book to be very informative and easy to read.

I've lost 17 pounds in 12 days, I'm just concerned that I'm losing too much weight, too quickly. I will admit I haven't followed the guide exactly. I'm not sticking perfectly to the listed foods and meal plans (but mostly) and doing very little exercise, but the weight keeps flying off.

It clearly works and if I'd followed it exactly I think it would scare the living daylights out of me because of the amount that I'd lose. So thanks again for the information. I've never purchased anything like this before because they are usually full of trash, but 3WD has been a pleasant surprise.

Get started today!

High intensity aerobics like running; swimming is wonderful for the entire body. Some weight training would help alot as the more muscle you have on your body .... the more fat your body will burn (even when resting) ... some muscle tone is far more attractive than just fat and flab.

don't worry about building muscle. in over 25 years I've never seen a single women build big muscles by accident. If you're not supplementing with anabolics or androgens it's the last thing a women has to worry about. your bodies on average produce 1/10 the amount of testosterone that men do.

As a man, I generate more testosterone sitting on my butt drinking beer than you will at full gallop. Women seem to have this thought that lifting real weights, not those dinky 2 pounders, will make them look like hulky men. It wont. You do not have the hormonal abilities that men do to accomplish this.

I know commercials target women and say things like "develop those long lean muscles and not bulk up."

Do not be afraid to curl 25 pound weights. Do not be afraid to squat 200 pounds. A little muscle can be sexy.

people seem to be under an illusion that if they do some weight training then they are going to get big and muscley over night..but that isn't going to happen..however running is always a good fat burner, i'd recommend doing some weight work too just to stay nicely toned
