I've noticed that in India, China and other countries/religions, brides wear red instead of white. What's the symbolism behind the color?

In China, white is the color of death (the pale and lifeless body). Red is lucky. I married a Chinese man and I wore a red qipao with gold and silver flowers on it. My MIL had it handmade in China for me. (I never did dream of wearing a big fluffy white dress!).

I've read that red is a symbol of great honor. It's a beautiful color to incorporate for a wedding.
