Think about the way you're breathing. If you're taking in air to the bottom part of your lungs, put your hand on your stomach and you'll feel it move up and down. Just think of it as breathing through your stomach. What you're really doing is breathing with your diaphram, so it's the lower part of your lungs.

Just,

To make your voice, you need air passing across your vocal cords, so that they may vibrate. In order to get that air, which is in your lungs, to move across the vocal cords, the diaphragm must contract and make the pressure around the pleural cavity higher than the atmosphere, thus pushing the air out of your lungs.
