The Council of Nicaea. There were two. The first was called by Emperor Constantine The Great in the year 325 in the town of Nicaea, now Iznik in modern day Turkey. The council decided on the divinity of Jesus as an official church teaching.
The second was convoked by the Empress Irene in the year
787, the reason concerning the veneration of images in churches.
