It doesnt matter what you say - they will still consider you wrong and they right. Tis the dirge of religion...

I'm sorry - I'm not sure you have been paticularly well educated on basic subjects such as orthodox christianity.
As I'm sure you'll recall, contemporary evangelical christianity is highly influenced by the thinkers of the Reformation who rediscovered the Christological presedent of referal to the Divine Logos as revealed in the Bible - the doctrine of Sola Scriptora of Martin Luther.
Orthodox Christians work on the presupposition that the Bible is the inspired word of God and the highest authority on all matters - but then you knew that didn't you, being so highly educated.
If you'd like to discuss the intricasies of this presupposition I'd be delighted to enlighten you as I'm currently doing a post grad in theology at Oxford (not that I'd want to pull rank on a lesser educated theologian's personal opinions as that would of course be contrary to the spirit of this paticular forum).

If a quote is useful and relevant, it should not matter whether it's from the Bible, Shakespeare, or Popular Science.
Check the dictionary on this, being without God does not make you a freethinker, it makes you heathen. I'm not saying thats good or bad, just saying what the dictionary says.

Your assertions about 'Christians' are partially correct. The 'magical man' in many respects let's us judge ourselves apparently by our inconsistencies.
As for people 'running to the Bible' think about it this way. Rather than confronting a point (by an atheist) on an equal level, they are answering it from a higher level. The 'problem' is that many presently (here in the USA) have not realized that the same word (symbol) has a different meaning if one 'rightly divides' the word of truth, rather than accepting the 'wrongly divided' word of truth (2 Tim. 2:15; I know from personal experience),

Uneducated and dependent before the One True God is wise.
Educated and independent before Him, or even before humanity, is arrogance.
No words of men can be compared to the Words of the Holy Books.

If you are a Christian your answers do come from the bible. Our faith is not in ourselves but in God, we are dependent on God and his word. We do not have anything to prove. There is a God who will judge us all.

Hey. It's our religion. We go by the bible. Why not quote it if it answers the question? I see no problem with that.

If you haven't noticed that's what Christians are about (the Bible and God). It's like telling a scientist not to use his/her knowledge about science.
