The answer is NO. Reason being, to sell it over the counter, it has to have a certain filler ratio. If you take 3 OTC, you will have triple the amount of "fillers" which affects absorption, as well as could give you a big ol' tummy ache.

The amount of filler material in 3 pills, will affect the amount of absorption before passing through the digestive system.

Any medication sold in the USA as a "drug",whether "generic"or "trade name" If the box say's Aleve or Ibuprofen ,are exactly the same compound as mandated by The FDA,federal drug administration laws.It makes no difference between prescription only or OTC.Otherwise manufactures and distributors could do whatever they pleased, and cause much harm to the public, and lawsuits would put them all, including the Pharmacies out of business. Only the 200mg tablets are available with out a prescription. SW RNP

Yes.

My doctor said I should take 800mg of Ibuprofin for a certain kind of headache, and she said I didn't need a prescription because I could take 4 regular 200mg tablets.

Yes, but why are you talking this much ibuprofen?

I take that much, 3x/day, by presciption, as one of my meds for multiple types of arthritis. And that's just while we figure out if there's something that can slow down the disease process. Pain meds only help with a symptom.
