My grandfather recently purchased an HDTV and I am trying to determine which of the two satellite providers provides the best value for HD programming. I would like some opinions from people who have had experience with BOTH providers. Please do not reply with "I have Dish Network and I like it". Again, I would like opinions from those who understand the differences between Dish Network and DirecTV as it relates to their CURRENT HD packages. Please recommend one or the other and why. Thanks.

If you Grandfather is a NFL football fan and willing to spend $229 annually for DirecTV’s NFL Sunday Ticket - the decision process is over. DirecTV’s NFL Sunday Ticket offers up to 9 football games weekly during regular football season in High Definition (in addition to 150 standard definition games) unavailable elsewhere (unless it’s the home team available with a local network).

That wouldn’t influence me! The only football I watch is the Super bowl.

Both DirecTV and Dish Network receivers are MPEG 4.

Currently Dish Network offers 30 Channels in High Definition in addition to local market networks in High Definition (ABC, CBS, NBC, Fox, and PBS). . Dish Network bought the VOOM High Definition satellites / programming which provide them with more High Definition programming than anyone.

DirecTV offers just 9 Channels in High Definition in addition to local market networks in High Definition (ABC, CBS, NBC, Fox, and PBS).

DirecTV will eventually add more satellites for High Definition – sometime in 2008

DirecTV and Dish Network non-DVR (Digital Video Recorder) receivers are equal.

DirecTV’s DVR’s are junk.

I couldn’t live without a DVR – the Dish Network High Definition DVR is excellent.

The best DVR’s are made by TiVo. TiVo announced at CES they will offer an HD DirecTivo (DirecTV TiVo).

If the HD DirecTivo were available now that should strongly influence you Grandfathers decision.

Dish Network was the logical choice for me.

My parents love TiVo. They could never figure out the other DVR’s. TiVo is that much better! They have the standard definition DirecTivo.

There are enough variables that this is not an simple decision.

Good Luck

I like the direct tv better. Direct now has the new mpeg 4 receivers. The picture looks alot better than dish.
If you go into a best buy or circuit city store there tv's are hooked to a direct tv system. you can research the old mpeg 2 and the new mpeg 4 from your keyword.
I hope this helps you.

it fairly is basically a count of determination. satellite tv for pc is going out extra desirable than cable in undesirable climate, yet in reality they're concerning the comparable, different than with satellite tv for pc you're able to pay for upkeep. The DVR is great. i would not desire to do without one .
