To reply to an insult is to validate that person's rhetoric. Ignore it. Afterall, if the individual is insulting you then they aren't your friend. They don't have your best interests in mind so why should you care what they think. To trade insults is to stoop to their level. Just ignore it and don't give them a second thought.

Keep in mind that returning an insult is never a good idea. However, before I knew that, these were the ones I used...
"If you make love the way you (insert any activity here), you'll have to adopt your kids."
"I'll be darned, you ARE as stupid as everyone says!"
"Who on earth dresses you?"
"By any chance, do you wear aluminum foil hats and fear your people might find you?"
"I look forward to the day the FBI makes the file on you available to the public."
"Do you know who your father is?"
"Do the world a favor and have yourself spayed/neutered."
To a man..... "Do you have any idea how many illigitimate children you've fathered?"
To a woman.... "If it weren't for you, abortion clinics wouldn't have enough clients to stay in business."
"You would have been the best poster child in favor of abortion."
"Are you the result of a home abortion that didn't work?"

The direct approach is best. Pause for a long beat, look the person in the eye, and say, "Why would you say something so insulting?" And walk away without waiting for an answer. Don't look flustered or upset.

When in doubt, just say "if you don't shut the **** up, you'll be wearing a pair of concrete shoes at the bottom of the East River." That always takes the smirk off their faces!

This response applies to just about every insult known to humankind. What you do is laugh and say, "That is sooo funny!! You think that your opinion matters to me" and walk away laughing and shaking your head.

The fact that you get insults mean that you have allowed people to do that to you all along. They see you as timid and easy to bully. Change your whole attitude to these people and let them know you are not a softy.

The best response is none at all or as someone else said -ask them why they did it and walk away.
Also, if you get insults from more than one person, you might want to ask yourself what you are doing to warrant them.

wait a couple of seconds, then say " did you say something? I was just thinking of what you would look like if i could turn you into a pile of dog crap, wait, u would look just like you do now."
they will be sooo mad they would just walk away in a huff. then just laugh.
