I have used a glass mason jar, filled it 50% with water.

Insert 4-8 toothpicks about 1/4" into a potato, midway from the top to bottom, in a pattern that will allow the potato to be suspended from the top of the jar. Adding Miracle Grow to the water solution will stimulate the root growth.

The very first thing you do is spell experiment correctly for your project. Now, get a canning jar or mayonnaise jar and five or six toothpicks. Take the potato (a sweet potato works the best) and puncture the potato right in the middle with the toothpicks all around at an upward slant. This way the potato will be submerged in the jar of water at least half way but won't fall in. Keep the jar full of water and setting in an area with sunlight (not direct). In a matter of time tiny sprouts will begin to appear and a vine will start to grow. Good Luck with your project.
