Inferiority is when you are below somebody... you are inferior to them (a sick person is physically inferior to a healthy body builder, for example). So people hate those who make them feel lower than them.

People don't like others that make them feel lower, or inferior.

An example of this is the reason why kids don't tend to like the school "nerd" that always seems to want to share his knowledge with everyone.
Hope I helped. =)

by Philip Dormer Stanhope Chesterfield - 1847 (say 1778)

Lord Chesterfield wrote his son for over twenty years while he was away at school and traveled in Europe.

The entire quote is better, he is telling his son to be careful, considerate to others as their "feelings" or not to insult them.
Nor would you want someone to despise or even 'envy" you as that is just not proper in a moral sense.

:) It is not stupid, it holds a lot of truth. It means that people don't like and in some circumstances hate people that make them feel bad. Or make them feel unworthy/ not good enough.

And from my experience it has been 99% true.

Don't do anything so stupid that it would be embarrassing to tell the paramedics because they probably have heard of a lot of stupid things people have done to hurt themselves.

I think that if a person will consider that another person is less important than himself, the second person will not like the first one.
