Hi there. Most birds are flock birds and follow the leader. They tend to face the direction opposite of the wind so that a tail wind can benefit flight if escape is necessary. Being flock birds, they are very social with each other and communicate facing the same direction.May you have a tweet year with many tail winds.

Because it is an instinct to do the same as all the other birds, because it gives them a sense of safeness. If the first bird that lands faces on way, then all the others will, just so they wont feel left out of the pack, and it will disorganize them.

Most of the birds will face away from the wind. Not all but most.

I came on here thinking I knew the answer to this as this made sense to me however a vet tech on here also made sense so now I am not so sure I am right.

Birds are a species of prey, therefor, they face the wind in order to take off quickly. Just like airplanes.

Usually it has to do with the weather, They put their backs to the wind and rain, or the sun position...who wants the sun in their eyes?! Great question!

I would like to know my self, maybe they want to let the other birds know that they are one united group, "together we stand, divided we fall".
