I am biased in that I have spent 10 years in the USAF, but the real truth is that if your "gung-ho" and want to be on the front lines, The Marines or the Army is right for you, (you might want to be in decent physical shape before you join too, or they'll wear you out, hoo-yah!). If you like the water then the Navy is the place for you, but my Navy friends that were assigned to Subs (for months on end) say that if you're claustrophobic thats not the thing for you.
The Air Force usually transports the other Services to the regions of conflict and assists, if not leads, the air campaign/assault.
I loved crewing on EC-135 "A-C-G" models and then crossed over to B-1 bombers when they came into service. I traveled all over the globe, made great friends (yes even Army, Navy, Marines and Coast Guard friends), and enjoyed my service and duty to my country. I was lucky in that I didn't have to "be on the front lines" but was still involved at a safe distance. Most of the Services will challenge you intellectually and some are more physically demanding, and again make sure that you choose a career path in the Service that has an equivilant civilian job to best utilize your talents, like "Air Traffic Controller" or "Accountant". Best of luck to you.
