Ok. Weird question, but I'm pregnant. My daughter just turned one. I'm not as "regular" as I was before I got pregnant. Sometimes I go number 2 up to 3 times a day. But my kid won't let me. I don't mind if she is in the bathroom with me. Sometimes she's fine. But other times, she tries to crawl up my legs and it's very annoying. So I sit her outside the door with toys and she just screams. For the life of me, I can't go with a screaming child.
What do you do with your babies when you go to the bathroom? Any tricks?

ok. Although our house is big, it's an open floor plan, so if she is crying, I can hear her where ever she is. And a reminder, she is 1. She doesn't understand 99% of what I say.

Another thing...she's an avid walker. She's been walking since 9 months and I can leave her in the house and she'd be fine as everything is child proof, but she won't entertain herself.

Our bathroom is up stairs, thank goodness, have you tried putting her in her crib with music, or playpen? If she really wants to be in there with you, maybe hsve her sit in the tub, and play with tub toys, at least she won't be crawling up your legs. sounds silly. but may work.

i know the feeling. i am not pregnant, but i know how you feel about a child trying to climb into your lap while on the potty. i like the suggestion of getting her her own potty chair to sit on while in the bathroom, although 1yr old is a little young for potty training, but it may just work. my 14mo daughter is a very active walker and climber so i am unable to leave her in any room by herself while i run to the bathroom, let alone take a shower. i take books and toys into the bathroom with me, she also likes to play with cups of water in the shower while i clean up. the best is to try and time things while she is sleeping, but that's like trying to nail jello to a wall. good luck.

Darlin, get yourself some headphones & a Walkman and sit there & let her scream. She is going to have to learn that screaming her head off is not going to get her anywhere. I understand (TOTALLY!) the annoyance and upsetting feeling of listening to your child scream-annoying because you know nothing is wrong, but upsetting because you are the mommy & you want to make it all better.
She does this because you let her.
One option is to get her a potty chair & let her sit on it while you go. You could begin explaining to her what it's for & that eventually she will go just like Mommy does. Sort of gear her up for what's to come!
Good luck with your potty pal & your one on the way!

I would let my daughter in with me and give her a book to look at. The screaming wasn't ever worth it to me. I think she potty trained early due to the fact that she was in there with me and it wasn't a big deal. Other times I would sit her on my lap and go. What can I say...I don't fight the small stuff.

I always just use the exersaucer and he's fine with me in the bathroom. My son is 1yr old. If I left him crawl around he'd get into everything. The exersaucer gives him a chance to play too.

try singing songs with your child, ones with actions to keep her engaged like: If you're happy and you know it, or the wheels on the bus".
maybe put a small child size stool in there and she can sit like mommy while you sing together. Bring in some infant books for her to look at while she sits. (This could all help with future potty training too)
be creative, have some fun with it!
Good luck

Sounds like you need to put your one-year old in her crib or playpen before you go to the bathroom. She'll be safe there, you won't be able to hear her, and she'll eventually come to appreciate her moments to herself. She may as well learn it now with sibling on the way.

you could set her in a play pin with toys, if someone else is there you could ask them to watch her for a min. or if she is in the bathroom with you could play a game. you could play Simon says and have her do stuff like touch HER nose or something that way she wont be touching you.
