Wrap them in foil and bake for 45 minutes to an hour. Then stick a knife or fork in and if it comes out easily, the potato is done.

They take approximately 1 hour. After 1/2 hour, turn them over. Make sure that both sides of the potato are punctured with fork, etc. They are done when the fork can slide easily into them.

Just poke the potato with a toothpick. If it comes out clean, the potatoes are fully cooked.

The skin will be kind of papery (if cooked without foil) and when you poke it with a knife or fork it should go in easily. (About like it would if you were cutting it at mealtime).
If you take the time to pound it with a knife handle a few times before slicing into the skin, then you can give it a nice semi-mashed texture.

Stick a fork in them. If it goes in easy then it's done but if it still feels hard to push through it needs more time.
