I just got my first tattoo yesterday, I was told to use Neosporin for 2 days and Non-Scented Lubriderm for 2 weeks... There are tons of different techniques for taking care of a fresh tat. Your best bet is to call your artist and ask them personally though.

Use A&D ointment (as long as you are not allergic to beeswax) or Aquaphor. Tattoo Goo is also a good one. I have had many tattoo artists tell me that you should NOT use Neosporin or Bacitracin....You don't want to lose color. After about a week or so of using the ointment I suggested or the Aquaphor, you need to keep it moisturized with a lotion like Lubriderm or Eucerin. Make sure not to itch it or you could damage it by pulling away pieces of skin. Remember that it will form small scabs and you can't pick those. Let them heal. There will be a little color loss as the skin can only hold in so much color. Keep it moisturized and clean and you're good to go!

Bacitracin IS neosporin and you should not be using either. You should be using A&D ointment for the first 3 days then switch to a fragrance free lotion.

i have always heard NOT to use neosporin because it is an antibacterial. but i've never heard of bacitracin either. i use a+d for a few days and then fragrance free lotion after that.

I heard that Neosporin fades the ink. But A&D ointment or vaseline works well.

I was told not to use either. Just a plain soap and water wash in the morning and unscented, uncolored lotion and A&D in very very very small amounts.
Best thing to do is follow what your artist told you and call him/her if you have questions.

You should always use what the tattoo shop tells you. There are lots of products that will fade the color.
