It is a celebration to mark the departure of someone. Farewell parties take place when people leave to move to another place, so that they can say goodbye to their friends. It is normal to have a farewell party at work when somebody retires or leaves to go to another job.

I guess you mean a goodbye party - a party for someone who is about to leave a place, job or something like that.

when somebody leaves the country for a long time or maybe forever like if they imigrate ,they have a good bye party
the same happens if somebody retires and leaves the office ,forever.
