Having a party theme can liven up any dull party. For instance, you could have a rodeo theme. Tell guests to dress in western gear, and decorate with lasso ropes, bandannas, cowboy hats and boots, etc. Serve Barbecue, baked beans, potato salad, and coleslaw. For dessert, have a marshmallow roast over a small five outdoor. Show a "Spaghetti Western" after the meal is over. Your party is sure to be a hit, and the conversation will flow. Other theme ideas: Superbowl madness, 70's disco, Hollywood Movie, or Tropical Hawaii. The possibilities are endless. Have fun!
Err.......I just saw that your guest are your in-laws, so you might want to save the theme idea for another time when it's just other couples.
For In-laws or other family: Have a well planned meal, complete with dessert and coffee. Afterwords, have three of the latest movies available on DVD. (To avoid any embarrassment, stick to PG or PG-13) Let your guests select the movie. When the show is over, it'll be time for everyone to go home. Good luck!

At my house we pull out the old records, yes records not cd's and take a trip down memory lane. We dance and of course you got to get a few soul train dances going also.....then it becomes do you remember, do you have this one.....put a domino game in the kitchen, a spades game in the back room, some cheap food and drinks and you're set!! Let the party happen....
