I have a recipe for a Chocolate Banana Cake however it asks for 2 tbsp of malt extract. I have been to several supermarkets but haven't been able to find this ingredient. Can someone advise as to a suitable substitute?
Thanks a lot
Emma

I don't know of a substitute for malt extract, unless you try honey or golden syrup, not the same though.

You can find malt extract in health food shops and chemists, but make sure it's the one without cod liver oil added. You may also be able to find it in a shop selling beer making ingredients.

Yes try a chemist or a health food shop. I have made banana cake before, but never put malt extract in it and it was lovely!

Why do you need a substitue, go to a chemist and get some! Mre likely at a small local chemist than at Boots but there is no substitute - it is lovely!
