Try getting some 'zinc tablets' (the ones you can 'suck on' that 'melt in your mouth) and take two at first, then one every two hours every hour you are awake. Those will help you 'heal faster.' Do not drink ANY 'milk products' but drink LOTS of water ... up to a gallon a day. You can have some of it in 'tea' because that is 'warm' and the warmth will help loosen the 'mucus.' Lemon grass tea is especially good when you have a bad cold, and so is anything with 'orange zest' in it. You can also heat up 8 oz of unsweetened grapefruit juice, add 2 tablespoons of honey, and right before you drink it add a 'shot of whiskey or vodka' ... it will help you sleep, and eventually that cold will go away. Sorry you're sick.

I have had bronchitis and pneumonia every winter for most of my life and always had to get medication from physician to break up to mucus and make my coughing more productive (cough up the phlem). MUCINEX is now on the market and it works wonders. I don't have insurance right now and I bought this on the advice of a friend and I was very pleased with the result. I am A-OK now. I know it is a medication, but if it is really severe like mine is, you won't notice any med-like effects AND IT WORKS!!!!

Lots of Vitamin C....Tropicana has an Orange Juice out called Immunity Defense and it had 230% Vitamin C....I take it and in 2-3 days my cold is gone. I don't take meds either, because they only seem to pacify the problem temporarily not cure it. Hope you feel better soon! :-)

Use saline nasal spray. The small bottles are just OK, but the large(more expensive)ones really do work. There's no meds in it, just salt water. Another benefit(besides relieving congestion) is that the salt water changes the ph in your nasal passages making them less attractive to cold viruses. I use saline spray and it really works.
