You are probably talking about bands that reach from top teeth to bottom teeth inside your mouth.
Rubber bands let your orthodontist apply continuous pressure to move teeth. It is very important to replace them as often as your ortho tells you. The bands get weak while you wear them, so a fresh one of the correct strength is needed.
- You remove the bands for eating and brushing teeth, then put in new ones after.
- Wearing bands will probably cause some soreness in your teeth. That's from the force being applied. You can treat it pretty well with pain relievers like ibuprofen.
- The bands will be visible when you speak. Don't worry about that.
- They may rub against your cheek or inside of your lip. Try to hang in there, your mouth gets used to the irritation. I rinsed with hydrogen perioxide solution (brown bottle on the first aid aisle). It helped my irritation heal faster.
- Bands come in different thicknesses and sizes. This lets the ortho pick the type that suits the teeth he/she is working on. As your treatment progesses, you will probably have the type of band changed. Be sure to keep up with that. My ortho gave me bands with animals on the package to make it easy to identify. I had "rabbit" and "kangaroo", etc.
- Your ortho really wants you to comply with the band wearing, so they will give you packages of rubber bands. Ask for more whenever you need them. (My ortho will even mail a package if necessary.)
- Your ortho will show you how to put the bands on, and which hooks to use. Sometimes there will be a different band type for each side of your mouth. My ortho gave me a diagram to take home so I would remember the pattern. Yours probably will too. After awhile you get the pattern memorized, and don't have to think about it, until the ortho prescribes a new pattern.
- My ortho gave me wax (to cover irritating brackets) in a nice little plastic container. So I emptied half the wax strips and put spare bands in that place. I kept this in pocket or purse always. When I was using two different band types, I pressed one type into the wax, and left the other type free. That made it easy to identify them.
- It's pretty common to have a band fly off as you try to install it. So be sure to have more spares in your pocket than you think you'll need. Also, my ortho gave me a plastic hook tool to help me put bands on. At first it helped, but with practice I didn't need it anymore.

Hope this helps. Remind yourself that the situation is temporary, and the better you comply with wearing your bands, the faster you move to the next phase. The results are worth the nuisance.

well there is a medal applience that they put on ur teeth and they are tiny rubberbands that are real easy to put in but i have to warn u if they break in ur mouth they will hurt and u need to change them. they are a little hard to get used to but it will onlly take about a week if u wear them all the time. they are not painful at all though. just live with it for a while and u will be fine. if u have braces then they will out in a special wire that will hold them.

It is no big deal

Good Luck.......

rubber bands are used as a aide to help minimize your underbite..you would probualy have to wear them every day...it is a little uncomforable at first esp. when your trying to talk. But then you get use to them. I know because I use to wear braces..and rubber bands. Good luck!
