I know diabetes can cause confusion and strange behaviors, however, I feel that maybe your mother is in need of supervision and care. If she is not eating properly and forgetting to take her medicine, then maybe someone needs to be there to make certain that she does!
I wouldn't say that I'm certain that it is the diabetes making her feel this way, because it could be more, but it is possible!
good luck, I feel for you!

You clue is the fact that she acts this way after taking her pain medication for her back pain. Call her doctor and report this as he will want to change her pain medication to something that doesn't do this too her. Also if her blood sugar is low this could cause some of the problems but you mentioned it happens with the pain meds so that pretty much says she needs a different pain meds. You should consider taking her in for a good checkup though to rule out medical cause for her forgetfullness and to be sure she doesn't have early signs of either dementia or alzheimers.

While I've heard that diabetes or hypoglycemia can cause some of this, her symptoms also sound similar to my Grandfather's early years with Alzheimer's. You should have her go to the doctor, and should probably go with her, she most likely needs more consistent care in any case, because she IS forgetting things. Even if it is NOT Alzheimer's, you do not want anything unfortunate to happen to her.

It's not the diabetes. She might be on the onset of Alzheimer's. I'm a diabetic [age 66] for 10 years & with advancing age, sometimes forget or transpose letters when mailing. I wouldn't worry about it as long as your mom is happy . . .

Take her to a psycholigst is you're concerned about her memory

diabetis in its critical stage may affect the brains and thats the reason why people get srokes and sometimes they are lucky not to become paralyzed ....the worse than that is when it affects the brain and it kind off leads to memory loss and may even lead to a permanent loss of memory...

where as alzhimers is not a cause of diabetis....and people aged 60 and above r likely to get alzhimers.....nut the probability is 1 in 1000 people......

Hypoglycemia (low blood glucose levels) can affect brain function, but judging by her age it's probably just old age forgetfulness.
