Congratulations, we are getting married in September as well.. I like the colours copper, burnt orange, deep reds, gold, dark yellow, or you could go with bright reds, oranges and yellows too, or even brown colour's what I did was I am using the maple leaf as a theme, so I'm going to take colors out of them. Good Luck, and Congrat's!

The obvious route would be autumnal colours, but really there is no need to stick to that, go with your favourite colours or choose something a little different, such as mocha and duck egg blue, sounds weid but looks stunning. I'm going with a coffee and cream theme for my October/November wedding.

October you're entering more Fall so you would want to go with fall colors. Deep oranges, greens, yellows, golds, orangy reds.
September you're not locked in as much. You're not really summer but you're not really fall. I should think your color palette is pretty versatile except for pastels (spring) or glittery (Christmas) or really deep reds or icy blues (winter)
Take a color you or your fiance really likes and build around that.
Shades of a color like blue or purple.
Deep brown & shades of pink seem to be quite popular.

For september Oct I have always loved a fall look with out being too over done. Deep reds and burnt oranges look great together with touches of chocolate brown.

I always wanted a fall wedding, but I ended up getting married in August! Plus, I didn't really have a color theme AT ALL, so I don't really know what I am talking about.
But what I wanted to do for a fall wedding was a general theme of white with gold and copper accents. You could wear gold and copper jewelry, and have the decorations and certerpieces in white tulle with golds and coppers. You could give your bridesmaids all fall colored dresses, like warm browns, and pick a cool bellt with gold and copper in it for them all to wear.

if your having the wedding in early september than you can pick lighter colours such as
-pink/silver
-light purple/silver
-yellow/white
-light bright red/white
For a october wedding, its more fall like than summer so go for darker colours like
-black
-yellow and brown
-dark red
-dark sky blue
For either one you could do a black and white wedding, its been really hot this past few years and still is in.
