I saw this on a documentary once and i want to know some specifics about this and why this may happen?

Any ideas of a site that might have this information or could you give some of your thoughts?

Thanks.

Exercising increases your metabolism and burns calories that makes you loose or stabilize weight. But, more importantly exercising converts fat tissue into muscle tissue. Muscle weighs more than fat. These two counter forces are always at play.

When you first start an exercise program, you will loose weight fairly rapidly because you are increasing your metabolism and burning more calories. But, your weight will soon stabilize because you will reach a good calorie intake/burning equilibrium. There is nothing wrong with that. At that point, you are still converting fat into muscle and that's a really good thing.

More important than weight, you should check your body fat%. Get your self a new weight scale that measures both (weight & body fat%). This way you will have much more meaningful information regarding weight & fat loss.

I have never heard that. The only way that might be true is if you are not eating enough, then the metabolism slows and so does weight loss as a result. But exercise alone will not stop the weight loss process.

Oh. I just thought of something. Sometimes your muscles get used to a certain exercise and it becomes less effective, so a plateau results. Say if you bike to lose weight and have been doing it every day for 6 months, your muscles will get used to the routine and weight loss will slow. That's why so many experts recommend you change up your routine every now and again to work different muscle groups and keep from plateauing.

I don't know about stopping the weight loss process but what happens is you have no excess weight to lose. I used to be 185 lbs with 4% body fat. So when I exercised I gained weight instead. Muscle is heavier than fat. I could have slowed down on the weights and continued the cardio to control my weight at that time. If I wanted to lose weight I could have stopped lifting all together and just did the cardio.

You always have the capability to lose weight, that will never go away!

The documentary might have been talking about how when you exercise you build up muscle which weighs more than fat. If you are losing weight slowly, you are still losing the fat, but because you are building up muscle at the same time you may not see a change at the scales. Take body measurements and you will see that your body is actually smaller than it had been.
