Most tourists who visit Belgium go to Bruges. It's a lovely old town. Very cosy, with a lot of old buildings, canals, cathedrals, museums, a windmill, etc... They call it: the venice of the north.
You can see what it's like in this little film: http://www.vrtnieuws.net/nieuwsnet_master/versie2/mediatheek/video-070131InBruges/index.shtml?play , presenting the new Colin Farrell movie "In Bruges".
Gent is at only half an hour from Bruges and it's fine too. It's not as pretty as Bruges, but the nightlife is great! The city is soo alive. There's a lot of cool people and always things to do.
Antwerp is a good place for shopping. They have a lot of designer clothing, a fashion museum, cathedrals, monuments and museums too, and the most beautiful train station of Europe.
Brussels is a little tricky, you'll need a good travel guide to find your way there and to discover all of Brussels' secrets. But the Grand Place is just magnificent! Just like the Sablon, the art nouveau buildings, the cathedrals and the enormous range of museums...

The best thing about Belgium is the food. Restaurants are very good in general. You should try the mussels and fries... The chocolates are great too and there are over 200 different kinds of beer... They're delicious!

If you know how to enjoy the good things in life, I'd certainly give Belgium a try...

New Year's Eve celebrations are the same as everywhere in Europe, I think. A lot of parties everywhere, lots of people in the streets and lots of fireworks...

Yes it's worth visiting if you like arts.
Antwerp has the most Museums, old Churches in one city we have about 80 museums here in this town.
Very good food here, the only good fries in the world and of course the beers there cafes (pubs)here with over 300 sorts of beer. And of course the chocolates.
Brugge stinks all horse droppings in the streets and bad pipeline constructions.
Yes we have celebrations all over Belgium here, fireworks, open air concerts etc...
Beware Antwerp is dangerous, never leave your drinks unattended and watch out in the streets also in the day.

The mark of Belgium is that it has the biggest computer in the world like a movie screen. If you discover that you have lots questions to share.

Brugges was great. I went there in January of last year and had a blast. I think they have a giant ice sculpture festival in front of the Belfort for New Years. There are plenty of old churches and old buildings to explore. The city is small enough that you can easily walk it in a few hours. Good food, good bars, relatively cheap. I highly reccomend it.

There's NOTHING to do there. I went to Holland, and Belgium, and France in a trip one time. Holland was interesting, France had its good things, but Belgium was HORRIBLE.

The place is a dump and looks like the ghetto of western Europe in general. Go elsewhere, you'll be happier.
