My oldest daughter is now 8. I was thinking I would give her a run down of how to wash basic dishes.... plastic cups, plastic/kids plates, and spoons, forks, and bowls.
There wouldn't be any knives, or glass.
Do you think 8 years old is an okay age to start?

Putting dishes away might be a better choice. She might not get them clean enough. She could do all the prep work for dishes and wipe off the table.

Yes, I think it is ok....my kids are 7 & 8....& they BOTH do dishes...they started with the small things like plastic cups, bowls, plates, & spoons when they were 6...they have graduated to forks & SOME glass things....it makes it kind of easy since we have a dishwasher....but they still hate it...lol...

My kids also do laundry & clean other things around the house...nothing with chemicals....they do not actually start the washer or anything...but they do sort the laundry & they do help fold & put up the clothes....

They have chores to do...& although they grumble & moan about it...they love to sit back & enjoy the clean house & love the fact that they were my "helpers".....

Yeah that's good! You could do some of that with her but you don't really have to. Maybe she can take out the little trashes in the house and giver a dollar. Maybe let her set the table or take out the food from the grocery bags and help you put them out. Make a check list for her and if every day she does it you can give her maybe $5-$10 a week.
Here are some chores...
♥make-up her bed
♥sweep the floor
♥wash the easy dishes
♥take out the small trashes
♥dust
♥take out the grocerys
♥set the table
♥clean up the table
♥wipe the counters
♥organize her closet
♥organize her drawers
♥anything thats easy you can think of
hoped I helped! ♥

I don't see why not; you've already made sure she's unlikely to get hurt. My 8-year-old daughter has had daily chores for a couple of years. She feeds pets and makes her bed each day plus one household chore, like cleaning glass doors or dusting. If she doesn't get distracted she's done in 15-20 minutes so she still has plenty of play time. She doesn't wash dishes but she's expected to put her dishes in the dishwasher when she's done with them just because it's something that needs to be done. You might want to check them to make sure they're clean enough though (when she's not looking)!

Small chores that do not require too a lot time are not to any extent further a large deal. try as an social gathering, washing dishes, and perchance vacuum a small carpet, or sweep a small room. do not ask her to do something enormous that you already know for a reality will take a lengthy time period. and likely maximum critically, to freshen up after herself. It ought to be her responsibility to maintain her own residing area sparkling. If she's 12, she's maximum likely interior the seventh grade, no longer that important a grade. you pick her to be firmly committed to her schoolwork, allow her have some semblance of a social existence, and barely adequate responsibility to allow her do not forget that she has to make a contribution to the better half and children.

Yes and make sure the water is not too hot so she cant burn herself.Make it fun so that when she has to do more chores she can listen to music as she does them.Plastic is a good idea because when my daughter was much younger than yours shetried to give me a surprise by washing the dishes but a glass broke in the water and she cut her finger.Good luck.

should be fine... my ds has been doing plastics since age 4.

The biggest obstacle was finding a step stool I felt was safe to have near water. We used a soapy/wash tub in the sink and had him rinse. The strainer was placed in over the sink, or a dish towel to lay plates flat on, seemed to work the best, So there was no stretching to place dishes on dish rack.

I think its a fine age to start dishes, since you've taken safety measure into mind. Make if fun for her though. Do it with her for a little bit until she gets the hang of it and do fun stuff, like sing together or make a game up. That way it won't be like a chore for her.

Yes, She should be washing dishes now. I started my son at 7 with the basics. Now he is 9 and does that and then some. You have to instill the values in them while they are young before they get too relaxed.
