I think it is wrong! People who smoke like a smoke with their drink, they just go together! People who do not smoke should go to a non-smoking pub/club.
Then again...the government are happy to sell us cigarettes but wont let us smoke them ? They should just ban the things if they are so bad for our health!

It is the best thing that was ever brought in , Ireland banned smoking some time ago ,at first they said it couldnt work but it did . Now the air is clear where ever you go for a night out , the only thing is people look silly standing outside on the street outside the hotels and clubs etc. they remind me of someone being punished and put outside the door for doing something wrong.

I'm a smoker but agree with a ban indoors however, pubs, clubs etc should have to provide a shelter outside for smokers to use.
Hopefully when the ban comes in it will give me more reason to give up smoking.

I think it's an amazing thing! There are plenty of states in the US with smoke free laws now too, California, New York, Florida, Arizona, Washington DC, Ohio, etc. I hope the whole nation follows the UK's lead and goes smoke free.

If you had asked me 3-4 weeks ago, I'd have said what the fk's it got to do with anyone else, however my gf has persisted over the last year and a bit to get me to pack in! ( she's a veggie, non drinking, non smoking etc, I'm all of the above in reverse) However apart from the obvious 5 to 10 quid a day better off I am, I am also feeling a shade, just a shade mind, healthier . . . . now where did I put my chocolate HobNobs . . . OH yeah the question, yeah bring it on

I think the government is being far too heavy-handed in its legislation. There should have been legislation allowing pubs and clubs to become non-smoking venues should they so wish, with appropriate laws in place to deal with offenders. To introduce a blanket ban deprives both landlords and customers of a choice.
What is wrong with the general public being allowed to choose whether to drink in an establishment that allows smoking or one that doesn't, and the owner of the premises deciding what would be best for business?
This country is fast becoming a nanny state and I'm pig sick of it.

Bloody excellent! I've been to New York a few times recently and there's no smoking anywhere. The bars are wonderful - full of FRESH AIR!

about time,it's ok smokers whingeing on about freedom of choice, but that gives no freedom for the non smoker who is saddled with breathing in filthy air, getting smelly hair stinking clothes etc,but i do think there could be a technical solution[we can put people into space]extraction should play a large part of any smokers area, but it should be remembered smoking is not a natural thing to do,so the perogative should be given to the non smokers..................by the way,,i am a smoker..
