Since I have actual 'kids' I can see the similarities of children and kids...to me there's nothing cuter than a baby goat. But, I do try to refer to humans as 'children', so much is getting abbreviated now days, I'm trying to cling to the original state of things.... There are so many other things we can be called beside 'old people' it's just disrespectful (in my opinion) and shows a lack of knowledge in the english language. Seems the younger generation doesn't own a good dictionary not to mention a thesaurus.

I often use the word (kid's) when talking about children. I think it has a lot to do with where you come from . We also call our children ,bairn and bane in my neck of the woods .I would rather use them words rather then some swear words I hear some people use when talking to their children. I disagree with one person who said it's down to the basic understanding of English. We might all speak English but we also have dialects which can have an impact on out choice of words we use.

The American way of calling children. They just have to change all words of the original English so they can have what they call American English"

A "kid" is really an American term for a child - it's not an English word for a child at all.

I can't see the problem - some parents call their children worse things than that.

I totally agree with you.By calling children "kids" its just another way of using a slang word instead of the proper grammar.
