THE APOSTLE PAUL WAS ONCE SAUL

Acts 13:9 Then Saul, (who also is called Paul,) filled with the Holy Ghost,
set his eyes on him.

SAUL WAS A PERSCUTER OF THE APOSTLES

Acts 7:59 And they stoned Stephen, calling upon God, and saying, Lord Jesus,
receive my spirit.
Acts 8:1 And Saul was consenting unto his death. And at that time there was
a great persecution against the church which was at Jerusalem; and they were
all scattered abroad throughout the regions of Judaea and Samaria, except the
apostles.2 And devout men carried Stephen to his burial, and made great
lamentation over him.

SAUL IS AN ISRAELITE

Philip.3:5 Circumcised the eighth day, of the stock of Israel, of the tribe of
Benjamin, an Hebrew of the Hebrews; as touching the law, a Pharisee; 6 Concerning
zeal, persecuting the church; touching the righteousness which is in the law,
blameless.
Rom.11:1 I say then, Hath God cast away his people? God forbid. For I also am
an Israelite, of the seed of Abraham, of the tribe of Benjamin. 2 God hath not
cast away his people which he foreknew. Wot ye not what the scripture saith of
Elias? how he maketh intercession to God against Israel saying,3 Lord, they have
killed thy prophets, and digged down thine altars; and I am left alone, and they
seek my life.

(Acts 7:58-8:3) . . .. 59 And they went on casting stones at Stephen as he made appeal and said: “Lord Jesus, receive my spirit.” 60 Then, bending his knees, he cried out with a strong voice: “Jehovah, do not charge this sin against them.” And after saying this he fell asleep [in death]. 8 Saul, for his part, was approving of the murder of him. On that day great persecution arose against the congregation that was in Jerusalem; all except the apostles were scattered throughout the regions of Ju·de´a and Sa·mar´i·a. 2 But reverent men carried Stephen to the burial, and they made a great lamentation over him. 3 Saul, though, began to deal outrageously with the congregation. Invading one house after another and, dragging out both men and women, he would turn them over to prison.

Then Saul became Paul--the rest of 8 into 9 shows the transformation

Saul (who later became Paul)...he was know for his persecution of the followers of Jesus (that was his life's work)....then he had a miraculous conversion during one of his trips to go persecute more Christians. God confronted Him and then blinded Him...upon following God's commands he was healed and became a discple of Jesus (this is when his name was changed to Paul).
