Not on the knees but after having two back surgeries I learned that sit-up are one of the worst exercises. It puts a tremendous amount of stress on the back. Most therapist will tell you to do crunches instead. They work the abs much more and there are many variations you can do to hit all the abs...not just the six pack.

I do sit-ups everyday (100) for basketball, I have never been hurting on the knees unless I fall during a game. I say if you do sit-ups keep dooing them, they wont hurt at all.

no, not the knees. the back. i used to do sit-ups cuz i thought they worked better than crunches, and all i got out of it was a sore back. crunches work SO much better than sit-ups. trust me. i do at least 100 a day for basketball.

They shouldn't, sit ups are working your abs and back not your knees.
