It really depends on what aspect you prefer to specialize in. Obviously, a chemistry major would be you best generalized option. Biochemistry or cellular/molecular biology would be best if you're more into DNA analysis.

The main component will be what you decide to study and research in grad school.

If you're looking to be a "CSI" like they show on television, your best option is to major in criminology w/ a minor in criminal law.
However, you will not likely actually be part of evidence analysis...as a bias is necessary to avoid.

Good luck...also, you may want to look into colleges with forensic specialized programs, but beware...many of these "specialized" programs consist of only one minor class that does very basic, minimal coverage of forensics....honestly, you could learn just as much by watching Forensic Files on CourTv.

Criminal Justice of the Arts Criminal Justice of Science Whatever one you think you would like more, for an investigator you might be better off with the science. Check out all the schools your interested in because I would say 80% of schools have a program. Look at some of the top ranking schools for your CRIMJ and see what fits for you.

Actually, it doesn't matter. Get a four year degree, ( in anything)get a job at a police or sheriff department and work your way up the ladder. You're not going to go from college to Investigator right away.

Its Criminal Justice. Depending on what level of investigator you want to be, you may need a science major like Chemistry and such
